    FAQs

Gastroenterologists treat a wide range of conditions affecting the digestive system, including acid reflux, GERD, IBS, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, liver diseases, and pancreatic disorders.

During your first visit, the gastroenterologist will review your medical history, discuss your symptoms, and may perform a physical examination. They might also order tests such as blood work, imaging studies, and/or endoscopic procedures to help diagnose your condition.

Preparation typically involves dietary restrictions and bowel cleansing. You will receive specific instructions on how to prepare by our staff. In addition, you will need to pick up your prep kit at your pharmacy within 48 hours of your office visit. To ensure a good prep for your colonoscopy, we require you to fast starting the day prior to your procedure through completion of the procedure. It is extremely important that you follow the instructions given to you to ensure a good prep. A good prep is the only way we can provide you with a thorough examination.

The day of your procedure, you should not have any other obligations, such as, work, school, caring for small children, etc.  You will need a driver to take you to and from the surgical center and to be with you for the next 24 hours as you recover.

Our office will obtain a prior authorization for your procedure. A prior authorization is NOT a guarantee of coverage. Please call your insurance for benefits and coverage.

You should consider seeing a gastroenterologist if you experience persistent symptoms such as abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea or constipation, rectal bleeding, severe heartburn, or unexplained weight loss.

Yes. Maintaining a healthy diet, regular exercise, staying hydrated, managing stress, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can all contribute to better digestive health.

Dietary recommendations will depend on your specific condition. Common advice may include eating smaller, more frequent meals, avoiding trigger foods, increasing fiber intake, or following a low FODMAP diet.

Screening guidelines vary based on your age, family history, and personal health history. Generally, it is recommended to start screening at age 45, but earlier or more frequent screening may be necessary for those at higher risk.

Inform your gastroenterologist about your family history. They may recommend earlier or more frequent screenings and possibly genetic testing, along with preventive measures to reduce your risk.
